Boxbud primrose (Calylophus berlandieri)
You'll find this bright yellow flower blooming on ferny leaves in the most unlikely places (I first saw it at the McCommas Bluff landfill covering the escarpment). A little bushy plant with 2 inch flowers, calylophus makes a good border or edging. Good drainage is the key to a good flower display all summer (March through September). Great with blackfoot daisies, lavender, salvias and other plants that like gritty soil and mostly sunny locations.
