“We just wanted to send you a note regarding a recent experience we had with your company. (Before we had worked with your company, we had performed an extensive remodeling of our home. Unfortunately, we had too many experiences where the people responsible for the work took little or no responsibilities for it. Most recently, we contacted your company to perform a major landscaping project. During the installation of that project, a large number of plants did not survive their new home. And having spent a fair sum of money on this assignment, I was very disappointed. Truthfully, I was anticipating yet another poor customer service experience.

A frenzied phone call was made to your associate, Mr. Patrick Boyd. Incredibly, he had already known about the suicidal plants, reordered new ones (–hopefully the nonsuicidal kind), and was in progress of scheduling workers to plant them. There were no arguments, there were no excuses, and there was no attempt to shrink responsibility.
